It is with sad heart that we report the unexpected death of Steve Tilghman, a valued, respected, and appreciated member of the claims community, and a good friend to many. Steve was involved in so many areas, always striving to improve the educational standard and professionalism of the insurance claims business, and serving in every capacity he could to that end.

Steve was past president of the California Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters (CAIIA) (2002-2003), as well as the Education Committee Co-chair for the Claims Conference of Northern California (CCNC) the past five years. He kept himself involved on regional and local levels, whether speaking at or attending various association functions, or working back-stage to help facilitate that goal. Steve could always be counted on with an intelligent question from the floor at most any event. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Steve has been in the claims industry for over 34 years. Most recently, he formed his own company, Claims Professional Resources. He was an expert in the claims industry and has taught numerous classes with the CAIIA, CCNC, and other claims associations... including being a co-founder of the SEED Program (Seminar for Evaluation of Earthquake Damage). He has been involved with countless policy appraisal panels serving both as an Appraiser and an Umpire.

His soul mate, Nancy Ramey, has indicated that Steve would want his friends to remember him by relating old stories, thinking good thoughts, sharing a glass of wine...and not to be sad. That last item will be a tough one!

Services for Steve were held July 12, 2007 at the Crippen & Flynn Carlmont Chapel in Belmont, California,
with a reception that followed at the San Mateo Marriott.

Steve Tilghman will be missed.
