Changes in the Industry Spur Merger of Professional Associations
By Neil Ostrander

Has your organization altered in the last couple of years? Have positions been shifted, assignments rerouted, physical locations uprooted, management systems implemented, then modified, then redefined yet again?

Our guess is, like us, you have felt the winds of change in the industry. You would have practically had to be on vacation for the last several years to not feel the radical swings. We all are handling it differently; to some of you, it makes no difference. You do your job and whatever happens, happens, right? On the other hand, others think to themselves, I dedicate my time and energy to my job, so how can I make it work better for my overall career, my skills, my advancement and ultimately my pride in what I do?

This is why these brilliant people form business societies, such as the Property Claims Forum, or the PCF. We have all heard why we should participate, so there is no reason to cover that ground again. The people that attend the gatherings see the benefit of attending. The people that don't participate, well, they either do not see the benefit or choose to not learn from people outside of their regular circle of influences.

In any case, the Property Claims Forum of Sacramento has felt the recent changes of the industry just the same way as any insurance company, adjuster, or vendor has, and it's time to make a change. Just as nationwide companies have reorganized in response to a lean market, so must the PCF.

Therefore, the Property Claims Forum is aligning itself with the Sacramento Claims Association, in order to maintain the spirit and functionality for it stands for, mainly, a qualified educational platform for insurance professionals to advance their knowledge and careers. Many of you may not know the difference between the two associations. The Property Claims Forum is unique in that it focuses on property claims, therefore, contains educational forums relevant only to property claims. This, of course, limits its market to the professionals that only deal with property losses. The Sacramento Claims Association, however, benefits from educating in all aspects of insurance claims, from liability to workman's compensation. It's more varied but functions in the same way as the PCF. And when things are more varied, they have more appeal to a bigger audience.

It's our belief, that today more than ever in the workplace, that we need to have an array of skills to bring to the table, as the area we specialize in may just fall victim to the changes occurring, just as is happening to the PCF. The broader base of the Sacramento Claims Association will educate insurance professionals from all backgrounds and give us all the skill sets we need to prevail through this phase of our cyclical industry.

We will keep the spirit of the organization alive until it's time to split off again, and, we hope you will be here when that time comes. Until then, we urge you to not stand on the sideline and watch the game unfold; be a player, make yourself known, and take pride in the industry you work in.
