Marvin Wenograd
MVCA President committed to “being in the game”
by Jodi DeVillier, Coast Construction
March 2010

Marvin Wenograd, of Frontier Adjusters, is at a point in his life
where he knows what he wants. He chooses lifestyle and says
he loves being in the field and “in the game”.

As one of the last truly multi-line adjusters, Marv came up through the ranks in the corporate world, starting in Liability. He spent 21 years with American States, which later became Safeco. He was Division Claims Supervisor and started the Construction Defect Unit, as well as being the Environmental Supervisor. In addition, he was the only Extra Contractual Supervisor for all claims. He always volunteered to do anything that would help him grow personally or help his career.

Their first date started out at Bellevue Hospital, most famous for it’s psychiatric facilities. Sherry and Marvin spent the first few hours of their first date in the psychiatric facilities, but this is a story for another issue where Sherry will tell the details.

Marv was eventually transferred to California during his days with Government Employee Insurance Company (Geico). His wife Sherry opened Frontier Adjusters of Stockton and Modesto in 1982. Over the years, Marv had been offered several promotions that would force them to leave California. Wanting the quality of life they had grown used to, he turned them all down and finally joined Sherry in the business. This enabled him to do what he loves best, dealing with claims in the field. It has also afforded him the opportunity to be involved in the Mid-Valley Claims Association, where he currently serves as President. He sees the value in being involved in the community and knows the importance of networking.

As the claims business has changed, Marv says it is essential to understand and change with the times. “Those who change will be in a position to prosper,” he states. In addition, he believes, “there are many ways to make a great dish, but it’s not necessary to use the same recipe”. He stresses that you need to use the one that works for you. He says, “Be inventive. There is no set formula for dealing with everything”.

Marv and Sherry own a vacation home in Pine Mountain Lake, which is also set up as a home office. Marv’s dedication to his clients means he is available whenever they need him, but he can also get away anytime without worrying about it.
In addition to the vacation home, Marv enjoys fishing, hiking, hockey and Lacrosse. He is “still” an optimistic 49er fan as well as a Sharks fan. Despite the fact that Team USA lost the Gold Medal, Marvin is very proud of the 2010 US Olympic Hockey Team and says the game for Gold between Canada and the U.S. was the best he’s ever seen.

Marv can be found the third Friday of each month at Papapavlo’s Restaurant for the Mid-Valley Claims Association luncheon and can also be reached at (209) 478-1422 or centralcalclaims@aol.com.
